Presented here in a single set are the recordings by the Bill Evans Trio with Scott LaFaro on bass and Paul Motian on drums, including their studio sessions, their exciting 1960 Birdland broadcasts, and their immortal live sets at New York’s Village Vanguard. Tragically, LaFaro – who single-handedly changed the role of the bass within the piano trio format – was killed at the age of 25 in an automobile accident ten days after the last notes here were recorded. This is still widely regarded as Evans’ finest and most important trio, largely because of the exquisite interplay between it’s members and the enormous influence it displayed among all of the modern jazz piano trios that followed.
